you need to fix the "restricted" settings on user accounts so that when someone is added to your buddy list, you can actually view their profile

They need to add you for you

They need to add you for you to see it; or they can set thier profile to public.

The buddy system here is a two way trust. You can add buddies that may not have you added as a buddy.

It's also possible that they havent set any privacy setting at all, which would restrict viewing from everyone.
